Google Ads for tradies and construction

How do tradies and construction businesses get leads from Google Ads?

Large scale projects and sales delivered with volume. This page answers that question in full: the auction you compete in, what I change in the first thirty days, and how an engagement runs.

The auction

The auction in tradies & construction

Two kinds of demand

Two kinds of demand share one account, and they do not behave alike. A burst pipe at eleven at night is a phone call within ninety seconds, decided on who answers. A bathroom renovation is three weeks of comparison, a form, and two follow-ups.

Mobile and local

The bidding is mobile and it is local. Most of the clicks come from a phone within a few suburbs of the job, and the winning ad is usually the one with a number that gets picked up. You are also bidding against lead aggregators, the directory sites that resell the same enquiry to four trades at once, which pushes cost per click above what the job size alone would justify.

Volume is the wrong target

The result is that volume is the wrong thing to optimise for. Quote requests are cheap in this sector and most of them are worth nothing: price shoppers, tenants who cannot authorise work, jobs outside the service area. The account has to be tuned for the enquiries that turn into invoices, which means the tracking has to know the difference.

First thirty days

What I change first

  • Call tracking, so phone enquiries are counted instead of guessed at
  • Emergency and planned work split into separate campaigns
  • Service area tightened to the suburbs you will actually drive to
  • Negative keywords for DIY, job seekers, and free-quote traffic

Digital media strategy through to measurable delivery for construction sector businesses.

JB Digital Media delivered exactly the result I was looking for from a digital marketing partner. From digital media strategy through to measurable and accountable delivery that drove high volume sales for construction sector businesses, I could not be happier and would highly recommend services.

How an engagement runs

  1. 01

    Read the account

Search terms, wasted spend and whether the tracking is honest.

  2. 02

    Cut the waste

Losing queries and dead campaigns go before anything new starts.

  3. 03

    Rebuild structure

Campaigns rebuilt around margin, intent and geography.

  4. 04

    Report plainly

One page a month. No jargon, no theatre.

How I run paid media

Send me your account, or tell me where you're starting from. I'll tell you what's working, what isn't, or how to get going.

  • where your spend is going to waste (if you're already running ads)
  • whether your tracking is telling the truth
  • the three fixes that matter most, or the right way to start if you're not running ads yet

5 out of 5 stars

He put together a really detailed audit and plan to optimise the account, and we saw profit improvements pretty much straight away after he took over.
